Introduction

The following is a reference list of sealants used on Porsche 924, 944, and 968 engines, with their Porsche part numbers (where applicable), product names, and applications. These are the products specified by Porsche. Acceptable aftermarket substitutes may exist for many of these.

Sealants Reference Table

Part NumberProductApplications
000 043 010 00Loctite 574Engine block halves, oil pump housing, balance shaft covers, oil dipstick guide tube, balance shaft sprocket retaining bolts
000 043 011 00Loctite 638Originally specified for balance shaft covers; still listed in some older factory shop manuals. Superseded by Loctite 574.
000 043 019 01Silastic 730 RTV / Dow Corning 730Both sides of the corners of the oil pan gasket. Aftermarket alternatives such as Permatex Ultra Grey have been used successfully as substitutes.
N/ADow Corning 111Not specifically required by Porsche, but recommended for lubricating all O-rings and seals on installation. Improves sealing and allows seals to move as they expand and contract.
N/ALoctite 270Oil pan insert bolts (M5), water pump to crankcase bolts (M6), reference mark sensor stud on flywheel
N/ALoctite 221Rotor to camshaft connector retaining screw (M4), camshaft connector to camshaft sprocket dog retaining screw (M5)

944 8-Valve Cylinder Head — Removal, Installation & Torque

Removing and refitting the cylinder head on the 8-valve 944 engine, with the factory tightening procedure — the torque-angle figures, the crosswise sequence, gasket preloading, and the lubrication rules. Torque figures switch between N·m and ft·lb.

944 only

944 8-Valve Engine — Tightening Torques & Wear Limits

Factory tightening torques for the 8-valve 944 engine — crankcase, balance shafts, cylinder head, camshaft, fuel and exhaust — plus key crankshaft and piston wear limits. Torque values switch between N·m and ft·lb.

944 only

944 Air Conditioning — Technical Data, Refrigerant & Service

Factory data for the 944's R12 air-conditioning system — the refrigerant charge, the compressor oil fill, the rupture-seal and coupling-power figures, and the compressor/condenser/line tightening torques — followed by a concise evacuate → flush → charge service overview with its vacuum and pressure targets. This is an R12 system, so handle the refrigerant only with proper recovery equipment. Pressures switch between bar and psi and torques between N·m and ft·lb.

944 only

944 Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) — Service, Sensors & Torques

Service data for the optional Bosch three-channel ABS (M593) fitted to the 944, 944 S and 944 Turbo — the system layout, the wheel-speed sensors and their fixed (non-adjustable) air gap, hydraulic-unit and relay service notes, the bleeding rule, and every ABS-specific tightening torque the factory states. The sensor air gap is a design feature and is not set on the car; bleeding follows the same procedure as a car without ABS.
