944 Wheel Alignment — Factory Toe, Camber & Caster

The factory wheel-alignment figures for the 944 — front and rear toe, camber and caster with their tolerances, the measuring conditions, and the maximum left-to-right difference. USA and Canada figures are given in brackets. Alignment is specified as angles, so there is no metric/imperial toggle.

The factory wheel-alignment figures for the 944. Alignment is specified as angles (degrees and minutes), so these values do not switch between metric and imperial — the angle is the spec. USA and Canada figures, where they differ, are given in brackets. For the procedure, set the car up as the factory measured it before reading anything.

Measuring conditions

The figures apply at curb weight to DIN 70020 — a full fuel tank, the spare wheel and the tool kit aboard, no driver or load. Roll the car forward and bounce the suspension to settle it before measuring, and read alignment on level ground with an optical or electronic aligner. A car measured light, or not settled, reads off. Set the ride height first — a car at the wrong height reads camber and toe off.

Maximum left-to-right difference: camber 10′, caster 30′. The toe-difference angle can only be corrected by replacing the steering arms, so an out-of-spec figure there points to a bent arm rather than an adjustment.

Maximum left-to-right difference: toe 10′, camber 30′. Rear toe is set per wheel, so both sides are adjusted to bring the total in without skewing the thrust line; rear toe and camber are set through the eccentrics when the torsion bars are indexed, and front camber and toe at the control arms.

Later cars

From the 1990 model year the alignment was revised (these figures also apply to the 944 S2 and the 944 Turbo): front camber became 0° ± 10′, rear toe per wheel +10′ ± 10′, and rear camber −45′ ± 20′ (still −1° ± 20′ for USA/Canada). Front toe and caster were unchanged; the maximum front-camber difference left-to-right became 20′.
